CNF received a €10,000 grant from GLS Investments for its “Khor Virap” sanctuary ponds restoration project as part of a competition last autumn. As was agreed, CNF doubled this amount and used it for the restoration of a new, large pond neighboring the previously restored ones. The works were done in close collaboration with the Ministry of Environment of Armenia and the “Khosrov Forest” State Reserve SNCO.
The works were carried out during March-April 2024, on an area of about 1.125 ha. A pond with an area of 0.901 ha was created with five islands (total 0.165 ha). In the central part of the pond, a semicircle-shaped area (0.224 ha) earth island stretches in a horizontal direction. The map and the photos of the area before and after implementation of the project are attached. Recently, the World Bank’s Board of the Executive Directors approved RESILAND: Armenia Resilient Landscapes Project (total budget is $9.1 mln.), which includes also restoring and preserving activities in “Khor Virap” sanctuary.
