On 5th of March, the Caucasus Nature Fund signed a Framework Agreement with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Geof Giacomini, Executive Director of the Caucasus Nature Fund said, “Signing this agreement with the Ministry will allow CNF to begin developing a strategy with the government on how to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Protected Area management. I am grateful for Minister Babayev’s time yesterday when we spoke about the pressing needs related to conservation and Protected Area development, and also to the staff at the Ministry for their work over the years to make this exciting day possible”.
The next steps for CNF in preparation to begin funding support in Azerbaijan include a follow up trip to discuss priorities with the Ministry and other stakeholders, and to develop a strategy that allows Azerbaijan’s unique Protected Areas ensure the conservation of species and ecosystems, as well as ensure the development of local communities.
