Algeti National Park

Georgia

Algeti National Park is located in the Trialeti Range of the Lesser Caucasus Mountains, with its striking mountain peaks and dramatic Algeti River Gorge. Its thick forests are the most southerly distribution of Eastern Spruce and Nordmann Fir, as well as being home to the brown bear; Imperial Eagles can even sometimes be spotted soaring over the park’s rocky alpine zones. The stunning “Samepho Kedi” (‘Royal Ridge’) trail offers the perfect horseback ride through some of the Park’s most impressive scenery. The lush canyons of Dashbashi, Samshvilde and Birtvisi (the latter two also famous for their ruined medieval fortresses) are Natural Monuments also administered by the park, while Algeti’s main entrance is through Manglisi, with its imposing Cathedral of the Dormition, the foundations of which date back to the 4th century.
