Finance and Operations Manager
|Organization:||Caucasus Nature Fund (CNF) and Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust (PONT)|
|Submission deadline:||30 June 2016|
The Caucasus Nature Fund and the Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust are recruiting a full time Finance and Operations Manager to provide operating support to two of the most dynamic conservation trust funds (CTFs) in Europe.
Caucasus Nature Fund (CNF) was established in 2007 with support from BMZ, WWF and Conservation International, and is a vibrant foundation providing financial support, by way of grants and consultancies, to the national parks and nature reserves of the South Caucasus biodiversity hotspot (Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia). PONT is a relatively new trust fund in its start-up phase. It was established in 2015 with grants from BMZ and the MAVA Foundation and support from WWF and the Frankfurt Zoological Society. Its mission is to support the national parks and wetland preserves of the Prespa Ohrid region in Albania, FYR Macedonia and Greece.
CNF and PONT have combined investment assets of EUR 55 million. Both CTFs employ innovative and sustainable financing mechanisms in order to conserve the unique flora and fauna of these regions, while improving the day-to-day lives of the local people. Our models emphasize long-term commitment, transparency and accountability.
We are searching for a Finance and Operations Manager to join and help develop our small and forward thinking team to administer operational, financial and development services for CNF and PONT, in cooperation with the separate local offices of the two foundations in the South Caucasus and South Balkans.
The role of Finance and Operations Manager is an exciting and challenging opportunity for a professional to join a pioneering structure, strengthen the internal capacity of CNF’s well-respected and high impact organization, and support the development of PONT.
Reporting to two Executive Directors based in their respective regions, the role will initially involve developing internal processes and managing the financial and operational aspects of the two funds. It will also involve coordinating with our joint Investment Committee on regular conference calls and assisting with the preparation of regular board meetings of the two organizations. At the outset, the Finance and Operations Manager will be working as a one-person team in Frankfurt, supported by CNF in Paris. By early 2017 at the latest, CNF will close its Paris office, the current CNF communications director will move to Frankfurt, and a third staff member will be hired. This office will be positioned to provide shared services in the areas of finance, budgeting and general administration, grant and consultancy administration, communications, reporting and fundraising to CNF and PONT.
In addition to managing all budget and investment related functions, the Finance Manager will be responsible for the routine financial operations of the two organizations, as well as some HR and administrative tasks. This position will suit someone who is happy wearing multiple hats, is detail oriented yet can maintain a strategic vision, and is comfortable testing new ways of working and building teams and relationships remotely.
As the Finance and Operations Manager you will be an energetic, self-starting individual who can express ideas, is detail-oriented and process-minded, but who is also flexible enough to enjoy working for an organization that will spend its first years continually evolving. You can come from an NGO or commercial background, but you should have approximately 10 years of experience in the domain of finance, accounting or economics. A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant area of study and experience in German accounting practices is preferred. You are comfortable working in a small organization, and understand that this means every day is different. You are very well rounded, and have a passion for learning and doing new things. You are ambitious, creative, helpful, and have a good sense of humor. While experience within or understanding of the environmental sector is not essential, it would be beneficial. You have written and spoken fluency in English and German. Ability to travel internationally once per year required.
A Letter of Motivation (in English) and a Curriculum Vitae should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org, citing reference: ‘finance manager’ no later than 30 June 2016.
Due to the large number of applications received for each of our positions, we regret that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
