The first International Summit on Protected Areas in Georgia was organized and hosted by the Agency of Protected Areas (APA) and the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, on November 7-9th, 2023 in Borjomi, Georgia.
The Borjomi Summit was dedicated to discussions around the key pillars of protected area policy, protection, and operations including forest and wildlife protection, governance and management, sustainable livelihoods for communities, biodiversity conservation, monitoring, and sustainable and equitable financing. International representatives of the world’s leading national parks, experts, and practitioners were in attendance. There were participants of the USA, Germany, Sweden, Romania, Macedonia, Armenia, Ukraine, Turkey, and the Republic of Korea.
CNF, together with the Bank of Georgia were among the sponsors of the Summit. Representatives of CNF in both Armenia and Georgia attended the Summit and presented an overview of CNF’s support to PA system of the South Caucasus countries. Tea Barbakadze, our Georgian Country Director, and Tamar Pataridze, our Regional Coordinator, presented to the Summit on behalf of CNF.
