OUR PROTECTED AREAS

Armenia / Georgia

Armenia

Arevik National Park, Armenia

In 2010, CNF made an initial award to Arevik on an emergency basis to fill a shortfall when the national park was created.  In 2011, this was converted to a three-year grant for €170,000 to support  basic park functions, including living wages for rangers and equipment purchases.

Khosrov Forest State Reserve, Armenia

CNF is awarding €252,100 over three years to the Khosrov State Reserve. Funds will be used to supplement salaries, purchase equipment (such as computers, cameras, binoculars and saddles for horses), tourism programs and various monitoring and public education activities. A portion of the funding will help build a ranger shelter.

Shikahogh/Zangezur Protected Areas, Armenia

CNF’s three-year grant (2011-13) of €210,000 helps Shikahogh undertake increased management responsibilities for Zangezur Sanctuary and supplements operating funds needed to maintain these areas.

Georgia

Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park, Georgia

CNF is granting BKNP €276,800 for its pilot project over three years. First year’s funds (2010) primarily supported a major renovation of the administration and visitors center. The remainder funded salaries and cell phone service that enables rangers to communicate in remote areas, as well as provided for camera traps which are instrumental to the biodiversity monitoring program at the park. For 2011 and 2012, funds will be divided between salaries and vehicle purchases.

Lagodekhi Protected Areas, Georgia

CNF awarded a €270,000 grant over three-years (2011-13) to Lagodekhi. The majority of the funds are budgeted to refurbish the visitor’s center  in 2012, with the balance being spent on basic park operations and maintenance work on the park’s tourist infrastructure.
