Pilot Projects

The Caucasus Protected Areas Fund has the pleasure to announce that it will be undertaking two pilot projects in 2010 at Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park in Georgia and at Khosrov Forest State Reserve in Armenia.

Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park

The CPAF will be granting BKNP €275,000 for its pilot project over three years. The first year’s funds will go mostly to a major refurbishment of the administration and visitors’ center. The small portion of the 2010 funds not spent on the administration building renovation will be divided between a very small supplement to salaries and the provision of a cell phone service that will enable rangers to communicate in remote areas of the PA. For 2011 and 2012, funds will be divided between salaries and vehicle purchases. Khosrov Forest State Reserve

In Armenia, the CPAF will be financing a €280,000 project in Khosrov State Reserve. This money will be distributed evenly over three years and will help supplement salaries, especially of protection staff. The grant will also go toward equipment purchases for the reserve, (including computers, cameras, binoculars and saddles for horses), tourism programs and various monitoring and awareness raising activities. Finally, in 2011, Khosrov plans to use a portion of the CPAF funding to build a ranger shelter.
